Maiden Stone

A whimsical wildlife piece inspired by our beautiful Maiden Stone monument in Aberdeenshire. The Maiden Stone is thought to be dated around AD 700. It features perhaps biblical elements and local folkloric tales feature amongst them a maidens bet with the devil.

My interest lies particularly in the mysterious pictish carvings and reoccurring symbology which you can see on the stone. The Mirror and Comb carving particularly inspired this piece.
